Please support the legislative fix in HR 8440 (“The Auto Bailout Accident Victims Recovery Act of 2024”) that will finally bring justice to the accident victims left behind in the GM bailout
- Remove the burden on the States of having to fund care for the many GM accident victims abandoned by the federal government in the GM bailout
- Show your compassion for these accident victims, who were paid pennies on the dollar for the approximately $936 million that Old GM estimated would be owing to these victims at the time of the bailout. By comparison, the government agreed that once it took control of “New GM,” the $60 billion in claims due corporate vendors, senior executives, unions, pension plans, and retirees would be paid in full
- Support the legislative fix in HR 8440, as was similarly done to enable the 1998 settlement of the black farmers’ discrimination case against the USDA in Pigford v. Glickman
- The Treasury’s “Judgment Fund” is available to fully fund the victims’ liquidated and “allowed” bankruptcy claims through a Court-approved settlement process
